An Occupational Therapist from Pediatric Partners Clinic in Fargo had the opportunity to attend a conference hosted by the University of Nebraska Medical Center: Munroe-Meyer Institute. The course, Nebraska Augmentative and Alternative Communication Summer Conference: Promoting Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in AAC, focused on culturally and linguistically responsive practices to support bilingual communication in children who use AAC.

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) are devices, systems, strategies, and tools, that replace or support natural speech. These tools help patients that have difficulties communicating.

This course will allow our therapists to better serve those patients who have culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds by incorporating more than one language with an AAC system.
